How to Plan an Adventure Elopement

Hire your Photographer

They are the key to all of the elopement knowledge you will ever need. Adventure elopements have such a range of activities and options you can experience. They will help you location scout, plan out the entire day from start to finish, choose activities, get permits, vendors, what to pack, what to wear, accommodations, travel, and so much more.  This experience should be more than a photo transaction. Find a photographer that is passionate about making your day as special as possible.

Start Brainstorming

What kind of day are you imagining? This is where you dream big. Think of locations that are special to the two of you. National parks are a great place to start if you want to stay within the United States. They offer so many different adventurous opportunities. What time of year can also have an affect on what activities are available.

Choose Activities

Once you’ve decided on the time and place it’s time to get down to even more stuff. How would you like to spend your day? It will obviously depend on the area you’re in. In some locations there are specific niche activities to the area you can’t pass up (sandboarding in Great Dunes National Park or hiking glacier in Alaska/ Iceland). The sky is the limit. Here is a list of more broad activities…

  • Hiking
  • Backpacking
  • Camping
  • Stargazing
  • Helicopter ride
  • Hot air balloon
  • Cliff jumping
  • Rock climbing
  • Picnic
  • Jeep tours
  • Zipline

Plan the Guest List

A lot of national parks have a limit of guests in specific areas. So this is something to consider when looking at different locations. The fun thing about adventure elopements is that you don’t need to have a guest list at all. You can spend the whole day without worry or judgment from other people. It gives you the ability to focus on what the day is about, the two of you!

Accommodations

It’s officially time to book your trip. Are you going to fly or drive? Transportation from the airport and your elopement location. Where are you staying (Campgrounds, tent, Airbnb, hotel, resort, igloo,  etc.)? Any other adventure outside of your elopement day. Take in all of the adventures that you can!

Finalize your timeline

With the help of your photographer they will help put together an organized timeline of the day. It will help make sure you can fit in all the fun possible. It will include the very start of the day, hiking locations, activities, first look, ceremony, vows reading, and celebrations. With this all finalized it’s time to get you married!
